Tryouts for the Hong Kong Men’s Elite Programs will be held in October 2023. Tryouts will include sessions for players who want to try out for one of two Elite Programs:
1) Men’s Rep Team (MRT) & High Performance Program (HPP) Training Squad
2) Under 25 (U25) & Under 20 (U20) Program
In the tryout, players will participate in fitness testing, practices and intrasquad scrimmages.
The Top 30-40 athletes will be selected into the MRT & HPP Training Squad. For the U25 & U20 Program, the Top 35-45 athletes who meet the age criteria will be selected. The U20 age group will be preparing for the World Lacrosse U20 Championships in 2025. Official Box Lacrosse & U20 Rep Team tryouts will be held at a future date.
The selected athletes will participate in regular training, gym sessions and local and international competitions over the coming season.
Player Requirements
- Players must meet at least one of the following requirements:
- Holder of a permanent HKSAR ID card or HKSAR passport, or;
- Have one or both parents, adoptive parents or step-parents born in Hong Kong or; - Have one or more birth or adoptive grandparents born in Hong Kong or;
- Minimum of a two-year residency period in Hong Kong within the last five (5) years,
- Players must be members of HKLA and are prepared to dedicate time and effort to the team.
U20 Age Criteria
- Players must be born on or between 1 September 2004 and 31 August 2009
U25 Age Criteria
- Players must be born on or between 1 January 1998 and 31 December 2007
MRT & HPP Age Criteria
- Players must be a minimum of 16 years old.
The criteria to represent Hong Kong, China is subject to change pending World Lacrosse voting results scheduled for the end of 2023
Selection Process
A selection panel is formed and they will work alongside with the coaching staff in the selection process.
The tryout will consist of evaluating the players in 6 categories: Passing/Catching, Looseballs, Shooting, 1v1 skills, Game Sense, Effort.
The selection panel and coaching staff will evaluate players according to the 6 categories and they will work together closely in selecting the final squad.

Information Session
An Information Session will be held on 11 September from 19:30 - 21:30 at the Olympic House Meeting Rooms at 1 Stadium Path. Players are not required to attend, but the meeting will provide an opportunity to ask any questions and to learn more about the Elite Programs.
Open Sessions
Open Sessions led by Captains or Coaches will provide players the opportunity to get some field time before or during the tryout period. They do not count towards the tryout evaluation and are not mandatory for attendance. A sign up sheet will be distributed in order to plan the sessions appropriately.
Tryout Dates
Players will be split into two Tryout Groups, which players will be informed upon the closing of registration. After the sessions on October 8th are complete, some players from Group A will be asked to join Group B for the remaining sessions on October 12th and 15th. Upon completion of all tryout sessions, players will be informed of their results.
Costs:
Tryout Fee $250HKD (Non-refundable)
Once selected, the program fee will be $2000 plus an elite athlete’s fee of $2000 for the season collected by 2 installments. (Non-refundable)
Team tournament and trip fees will be communicated to players prior to the tournaments.
Short Haul Tournaments: 2,500 HKD
Long Haul Tournaments: 4,000 HKD

Selection for the Men’s Elite Programs will be announced to tryout participants at the latest by: 18 October 2023
The players will be notified in the few days surrounding the last tryout session, and may be notified in person, by email, WhatsApp message or phone call from one of the Coaches or Selection Panel members.
Notes
1) Players are required to attend all Tryout Sessions.
2) Players must bring their own reversible pinnies and wear the same one for all tryout dates.
